General Team Information
Swimarin is San Rafael's community-based youth (ages 5-18) swim team and one of ten co-ed teams in the Marin Swim League (MSL). We promote the ideals of good sportsmanship, fair play, and community building for participants of all abilities in an environment that nurtures self-esteem in all the children it serves. No prior racing experience is necessary but swimmers should be water safe and have basic swimming skills.
Swimarin is a non-profit run completely by volunteers.
The MSL is a spring/summer recreational league that runs competitive swim meets from late February through the end of June. Swimarin also offers fall and winter swim training programs.
Practices are held at Marin Academy Aquatic Center, 1532 Fifth Ave. San Rafael. During the spring/summer season, Swimarin practices Monday through Friday. Team members can come train as many days as they like although coaches recommend at least 3 practices/week for improvement. Parents do not need to commit to certain days of the week in advance.
For the 2025 and 2026 seasons, home swim meets will take place at Archie Williams High School pool.
Swimarin kicks off its season with Splash-off Week where we offer tryouts and assessments for potential new team members. We want to make sure that swimmers are ready for swim team and use this week to sort the swimmers into appropriate levels for their practices.
FUN is also a requirement on Swimarin, and we host several social events such as the Season Kick-Off Family Social, Friday Pizza Days, Shark-a-Thon Fundraiser, and our end-of-season Awards Picnic at McNears Beach.
Swimarin and all of the Marin Swim League (MSL) teams are 100% volunteer run organizations. Each home meet requires at least 90 volunteers to run smoothly. Because of that, each family has to commit to a number of volunteer shifts. Most volunteer shifts take place during the swim meets, but there are also a number of board & leadership positions. When you sign up for one of these leadership roles, you will be fulfilling all of your family’s volunteer requirements for the season!
We can’t run the season without filling all the volunteer positions! More information on volunteering can be found here.
Swimarin also offers swim lessons to encourage swim safety and encourage kids to develop a life-long love of swimming and water activities. Known as our Shark Pups program, these series of swim lessons are offered April-June are designed for kids who are comfortable in the water but not yet ready for the swim team.
