
Joey Doyle- Head Coach
Joey grew up in Marin and attended Drake High where he was a multi-sport athlete. He was named to the 1st Team MCAL and 2nd Team NCS for water polo; In college Joey was a dual sport athlete as a member of the Santa Rosa Junior College swim team and water polo team, helping lead each team to a third place finish in the state. Joey then transferred to the University of the Pacific (UOP). At UOP, he was a two-time All MPSF Academic Team Selection, helped guide the water polo team to a National No. 4 NCAA D-1 ranking, while graduating with degrees in Communication and Business Management in 2012. Doyle then moved to Australia where he played water polo and coached swimming/water polo in Australia and New Zealand.

Marlon Woolf - Assistant Coach
Marlon joined the Swimarin coaching staff in March 2014 and is a USMS Level 1, 2, and 3 certified master coach. He also has a certification in AED, safety training for swim coaches, and CPR. In addition to Swimarin, Marlon has coached age-group Lucas Valley Winter League and currently coaches Swymnut Masters. He competes both in the pool, and the open water, and is currently ranked in the top 50 nationally in his age group in 50 and 100 yard freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly. Marlon is the father of twin girls who swam with Swimarin for many years. He is both athletic and competitive while exuding positive and constant encouragement for the team
Samuel J. Butero “Coach Sam” - Junior Sharks Coach
Sam has been passionate about swimming since the age of seven. A former competitive swimmer, Sam swam with Swimarin for five years before excelling in high school, earning first team MCAL honors in both swimming and water polo during junior and senior years. After graduating from UC Davis, Sam channeled an entrepreneurial spirit into launching a successful health and wellness company with his wife, Leyla, which they built and ran for a decade before selling.
Now, as Junior Shark Coach for Swimarin, Sam brings years of experience, leadership, and a deep love for the sport to young swimmers. His coaching philosophy focuses on technique, endurance, and fostering a lifelong love of the water, while also emphasizing teamwork and discipline.
Beyond the pool, Sam is a devoted family man. He and Leyla have two daughters, Josephine (8) and Jaqueline (6), who share their parents' enthusiasm for swimming as part of the Junior Sharks program. Whether coaching on deck or cheering from the stands, Sam is committed to nurturing the next generation of swimmers and inspiring athletes to reach their full potential in and out of the water.
