What is the “Shark Pups” Program?

The Shark Pups program is a series of swim lessons designed for kids who are comfortable in the water but not yet ready for the swim team. These lessons guide the children through the first stages of water safety, stroke development, and independent swimming.

Is my child ready for Shark Pups?

Your child should be at least 4 years old, fully potty trained, and feel comfortable being in the water. Children should be able to work with an instructor. (Instructors are in the water with swimmers. Parents are not allowed in the pool with their children.) Platforms allow the swimmers to stand in the water.  Typical ratio: 1 instructor to every 4 swimmers.

Is this the same as the Swimarin Swim Team?

No, these are swim lessons. Shark Pups classes are first offered to our Swimarin families with younger siblings to encourage swim safety and build future interest in the Swimarin Swim Team. Space is limited. If additional spots are available, registration will be opened up to the community.

You will need to assign your Shark Pup’s skill level:

Level 1: Water Exploration: Bobbing, crab walking, floating on front/back, gliding on front/back, flutter kick on front/back, freestyle, basic safety rules, and jumping in.

Level 2: Water Exploration + Primary Skills: floating, gliding, and flutter kick. Basics for freestyle and backstroke. Turning over from front to back and back to front, retrieving objects, and jumping into water.

Level 3: Stroke Readiness: gliding, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, retrieving object, treading water, jumping into deep water, kneeling dive, and compact dive.

Level 4: Stroke Development: stroke development and swimming a full lap. (Level 4 graduates are encouraged to join our Swimarin Sharks Swim Team).
