New for 2008- Swim Fins & Paddles
New for 2008, Coach Kara is recommending that each swimmer bring a pair of swim fins to practice this season. Z2 Zoomers, Tritan Swim Fin or a similar fin is recommended. You can purchase fins at T&B Sports or www.swimoutlet.com. The team will also have some available on deck to share.
Fins have many purposes when training competitively. For younger swimmers, fins are instrumental in developing proper technique. They help beginners stay afloat easier, so instead of concentrating on staying on top of the water, they can concentrate on certain parts of their strokes. Fins also help older swimmers improve their kicking strength, ankle flexibility and work on butterfly and freestyle speed by taking pressure off of the shoulders. Not to mention, fins are fun! Remember to use a permanent sharpie and put your swimmer's name on the fin prior to bringing them to practice. In addition, Kara is recommending that the older kids purchase a pair of swim paddles ($10) for practice. If you have questions, check with Coach Kara.

Practice location
All practices are held at the San Rafael High School pool. Street parking is limited, so we encourage parents who stay for practice to find legal spots on Mission Ave or use the school's front (3rd Street) lot. Do not park, wait, or drop swimmers off in front of the red curb on Mission Avenue.
For drop-offs, you may pull into the parking lot next to the Gym on Mission Avenue and your swimmers can proceed down the covered walkway directly to the pool gate. If there's a problem (e.g., canceled practice), we will try to inform parents and swimmers using our A-frame sign at the beginning of the covered walkway.
Please be considerate of our residential neighbors during night practices and in the early mornings during meets.
Please don't use the locker rooms
The school has asked us NOT to use the locker rooms or interior hallways during our practices. Instead, we have the use of the interior restrooms (access from the northeast corner of the pool deck) and the unisex shower room (accessed from the northwest corner of the pool deck). The showers are nice and warm, but no changing allowed inside! (It is unisex AND there is a window from the coach's office.)
